Some might say that catching sight of the Northern Lights is a rare occurrence but not as rare as our DeptGSupt being lost for words!
On Monday 27th January the DeptGSupt, E.Comp. Peter Mason, travelled North to attend the Royal Arch Meeting of Annandale Chapter, No. 660 in Lockerbie, Dumfriesshire. The ceremony is quite different to ours but the DeptGSupt reported that it was carried out superbly (as all Scottish Freemasonry usually is). After the Exaltation, the Grand Superintendent opened a special meeting of Provincial Grand Chapter. After the ordinary business was concluded, the Grand Superintendent announced that he had a special duty to perform and asked the Provincial DC to conduct the Companion concerned to him in the East.
After squaring the Chapter (as they do in Scotland), the DC stood before our DeptGSupt, E.Companion Mason as he sat enjoying the proceedings and beckoned him to rise. E.Comp. Mason, was then escorted by the Provincial DC to stand before the Grand Superintendent, E.Comp. Kenneth E.N. Johnston.
E.Comp. Mason stood with some trepidation before the Grand Superintendent fearing that he may be about to be flogged for hailing from the wrong side of the Border, but no……..The Grand Superintendent then proceeded to confer on E.Comp Mason Honorary Membership of the Scottish Royal Arch Province of Dumfriesshire and presented him with a Certificate from the Supreme Grand Chapter of Scotland along with a Dumfriesshire Provincial tie in recognition of his services to the Province.
After the presentation E.Companion Mason was heard to say “Totally Gobsmacked hardly describes my feelings and the look on my face probably says it all!”
