The Province was deeply saddened at the passing of V.W.Bro. Bill McKay, PGJO, PastAPGM who was Cremated today at Distington following a service at St.Pauls Church in Seaton.
Bill was 89 years of age and passed away on the 24th March 2021 in Cockermouth Hospital after a short illness.
He was a stalwart of the Mark Degree and was Advanced into Ehen Mark Lodge No.779 becoming the W.M. in 1971. He was also a member of Derwent Mark Lodge No.282 and Cumbria Lodge of Installed Mark Masters No. 1466 and was W.M. of that Lodge in 1995. He was appointed as the Provincial Grand Junior Warden in 1978 and in 1982 he received Grand Rank as Past Grand Standard Bearer. He was promoted to the Rank of Past Grand Junior Deacon in 1985 and as Past Grand Junior Overseer in 2002. He became the Provincial Assistant Grand Master in 2002 a position he held for just one year.
He was a Past Commander of Derwent Valley Lodge of Royal Ark Mariners No.282 and a Founder and Past Commander of Cumbria Lodge of Installed Commanders No.1466 and was also a Founder of Knock Murton Lodge of Royal Ark Mariners No.1761 and Wellington Lodge of Royal Ark Mariners No.229. He received Royal Ark Mariner Grand Rank in 1994.
He has been a stalwart of the Mark Province for many years and he will be sadly missed.
The Provincial Grand Master attended the funeral and the Province have sent condolences to his Widow Elsie.
Elsie has expressed her sincere thanks to all those who attended the Service, to those who paid their respects outside St. Pauls Church and to those on the route to Distington Crematorium. Elsie regrets not being able to thank everyone on leaving the Crematorium as she was swiftly taken away on the advice and insistence of the Undertaker.
