Yesterday , we had the pleasure of visiting Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team to witness and celebrate, the launch of new boat
The Team supports the emergency services by providing a rescue service for those in danger in the hills and valleys around Ullswater. They are called out by the Police, Fire and Ambulance services, and by HM Coastguard for rescues on the lake, making this new addition a vital piece of equipment.
The appeal for funding the boat started a little while ago, and we , in conjunction with the Masonic Charitable Foundation were proud to pledge an amazing £13,396 , an incredible 17% of the cost for this amazing venture.
Also, Mrs Lightburn, widow of one of our late Deputy Provincial Grand Masters Captain Peter Lightburn, kindly donated £2,000, in memory of her late husband.
The boat will be used to transport the team across Ullswater , to access the mountains at the east side of the lake, as vehicle access is extremely restricted.
This is a fantastic addition to an amazing team, and it was a pleasure to witness it launched and put straight into use
The head of Cumbria Freemasons, Nick Wilson was in attendance alongside the previous leader, Bill Bewley, acommpanied by David Stewart and Michael Mashitor.
