How to Join your local Masonic Lodge
Hopefully you have found this site informative enough to make the decision to join a Freemasons lodge in Cumbria? The process is very simple, you can just fill in the general enquiry form below and we will be in touch. Once you have decided that you might be interested in Freemasonry, we will have a chat and find Lodge that is close to you geographically ( or somewhere that suits ) and that meets on a day that you can attend. We will then put you in touch with that lodge who be arrange to meet you and get the ball rolling. There is a list of our Lodges on this site or we can recommend one when we talk.
Who Can Join ?
The criteria of who can join is simple :
You must be aged over 18 years.
Be an honest person of good moral character.
Have a belief in a Supreme Being (that is personal to you), any religion or personal belief is fine, regardless of whether or not you are active. We won’t question you about this, just your own belief is fine
Able to commit to giving up some free time.

The first steps in joining
we will ask you to complete a membership enquiry form.
you will then be invited to visit your nearest lodge to meet lodge and committee members, informally just a chat at a time to suit.
Here you can ask any questions you may have, learn a bit about the Lodge and meet some of its members

The Process after the initial meeting
Each lodge will have its own way of doing things but essentially each follow the same ‘principal’.
As much as you can, visit the lodge, or meet socially to get to know members.
They will want to find out about you and you will want to make sure the lodge is right for you.
Do speak with your family about joining Freemasonry. Their support is equally important.
Should you be successful the lodge will ask you to attend for an interview and your application will be completed.
This will be read out at the next meeting of the lodge and a date will be set for you to become a Freemason.
During this time it is generally the Secretary or Membership Officer who will keep you informed at each stage.
Good luck in your application! *Freemasons attend at least four meetings per year. During the Masonic season. They also meet for Lodge of Instruction (LofI) most weeks where rehearsals for forthcoming meetings are practised and Masonic knowledge is gained by new members
