£500 donated to Ambleside Junior Football Club

The members of Ambleside Masonic Lodge and their visitors were delighted to welcome Ailsa Finlayson and Raymond Irving to join them at the Festive Board last night.

Ailsa and Raymond were representing the Amblesde Football Club which has benefitted from a donation of £250 from the Lodge and £250 from the Wansfell Chapter. The money was spent on the provision of four benches and four Gazebos to make the club teams comfortable on the side-line when playing in matches.

A short talk about the history of the club was received with interest and the

Freemasons present were inspired by knowing how their donation had been used. It is encouraging to have a recipient present who is willing to recognise

and express their thanks for the contributions that Freemasonry makes.

An added benefit for those present was the discovery that Ailsa had attended

Rickmansworth Masonic School for Girls. After three years in the sixth form she went on to The Charlotte Mason College in Ambleside, where she trained as a teacher.

Her emotional statement that, ‘Freemasonry saved my life, I would not be here today if I had not been lucky enough to attend that school’, touched the hearts of everyone in the room.

It was a tremendous tribute to the power of Freemasonry for good in the world.
