In the past membership was gained by being proposed by a friend or family member and while that can still be the case it’s by no means the only way. If you are interested then simply Just Ask Us !

You will find an enquiry form and email throughout this site, just send us a message and we will be in touch.

Freemasonry is open to men over the age of 18, regardless of ethnicity, political views, economic standing, or religious beliefs.

Here in the Province of Cumberland & Westmorland we have over 2,000 members meeting at over 40 Masonic Halls and centres. Wherever you are in Cumbria there will be a group close to you.
Following the initial contact, we will arrange for representatives from a local Lodge to meet you informally or to invite you to one of their social functions. This will give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have and decide if Freemasonry is for you.

Our Guiding Principles

For Freemasons there are four important values that help define our path through life: Integrity, Friendship, Respect and Charity. In today’s world these principles ring as true as they have at any point in the organisation’s history.
Integrity

Rather than working on buildings like the masons of old, today’s Freemasons focus on building themselves as people of integrity, and membership provides the structure to help achieve that goal.

One of the oldest social organisations in the world, Freemasonry provides the common foundation for friendships between members, many of which will last for life.

With more than 200,000 members in the UK, Freemasonry brings people together irrespective of their race, religion or any other perceived differences that can divide us as a society.

From events, fundraising for a charitable or volunteering for their community , service is at the very heart of Freemasonry. Our members make valuable contributions by donating time, resources and skills.
