National Freemasons Service of Remembrance – 31 October 2026

Freemasons from across England and Wales gathered at the Royal British Legion National Memorial Gardens on Saturday 31 October 2026 to support the National Freemasons Service of Remembrance.

Representing the Province of Cumberland and Westmorland, W. Bro. David Bowden PSGD, Assistant Provincial Grand Master, travelled to Staffordshire to attend the service on behalf of our R.W. Provincial Grand Master and Grand Superintendent, Nicolas Blake Wilson.

David laid a wreath at the Masonic Memorial Gardens on behalf of the Province, accompanied by W. Bro. Rod Eglin, who proudly carried the Provincial Standard. Also in attendance were Phillip Dixon, James Burgess, Andy Chappel, and Scott Norris. It was a particular delight to have the ladies present too.

More than 500 people were present, gathering to honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Organised by Derbyshire Freemasons, the event paid tribute to the many Brethren who answered the call of duty, and to all whose lives have been touched or changed by conflict.

It was a dignified and moving occasion, reflecting the enduring commitment of Freemasons to remembrance, gratitude, and service to the community The Province of Cumberland & Westmorland has publicly committed to supporting serving personnel, veterans and their families, and is listed on the official GOV.UK Armed Forces Covenant Register.
