The first meeting of Copeland Lodge 4607 in their new Masonic year was to celebrate the golden jubilee of W.Bro Alan Rowell. Alan joined Copeland Lodge exactly 50 years to the night, on the 28th April 1975.
W.Bro David Bowden APGM, who knows Alan well gave a great insight into some of Alan’s escapades over the years and spoke highly of him as an individual. Alan moved to the Workington area after joining Copeland Lodge, so it made sense for him to join St John Lodge 8660, and he went through the chair of the Lodge. There were several St John members in attendance to help Alan celebrate the evening.
Alan has always had a reputation as being a good story teller, and has lived his life to the full, with hilarious stories of his water skiing exploits on Windermere, skiing from the Isle of Man to Whitehaven to raise money for the purchase of defibrillators for Ambulances and his paragliding exploits off the coast of Whitehaven left the brethren in stitches!
After the 50 year certificate presentation, Alan was promoted to PPGReg.
The Worshipful Master of Copeland Lodge, W.Bro Paul Smith presented Alan with a Masonic watch on behalf of the members of Copeland Lodge and wished Alan well for the future.
