A group of West Area Masons were recently invited to visit and tour Branthwaite Scout Camp to present a cheque for £500, which has helped to fund a log burner. The donation was from the former West Cumberland Group and had originally been proposed by Brethren of Gospatric Lodge No 5268. It follows an earlier donation of £500 from the Mark Order.

The burner is one of several improvements to the Camp, which is the HQ of the North Fells District and enables the facility to be made available all year round. It is used by hundreds of young people annually, including local Scout groups as well as schools and other organisations.

The Immediate Past Master of Gospatric Lodge, Jeff Taylor, presented the cheque to North Fells District Commissioner, Fiona Woodward, and several Scouting colleagues. Jeff was accompanied by Stewart Beach and the Master, Bill Phillips. Unfortunately, John Thompson, who had originally proposed the donation, was unable to attend. West Area Lead, Mark Edmiston, and Area Charity Steward, Graeme Thompson, are also pictured.

What a great example of Freemasonry helping important projects in our community.
