Eden Mencap Gets to Work Thanks to Freemasons

MASONIC CHARITABLE FOUNDATION TERCENTENARY GRANT ENABLES GREAT INITIATIVE

The East Lakes Group nomination for a grant in the Masonic Charitable Foundation Tercentenary initiative was Eden Mencap. After voting by Masons and members of the public, that Charity was awarded £15,000 in September 2017 at the awards event at Kendal.

Over the last 18 months, the charity has been setting up a company “ Fixit 4 Eden”, and getting all the necessary arrangements and equipment in place. The company was launched recently when the Group Chairman, W. Bro. Glyn Titterington ( accompanied by the Prov: Charity Steward, W. Bro. Keith Lowthian ) handed over the keys to a double cab, flat bed truck to the Charity C.E.O. Jacqui Taylor. This truck has been purchased with the M.C.F. Grant.

Local companies have donated work wear, tools, gardening machines, and other equipment. The young people who are supported by Eden Mencap, have now started undertaking paid, work in the Eden area – DIY projects, ground works, garden maintenance etc. This project is having an unbelievably positive effect on the confidence and well being of all those who will be involved in it.

Whilst it has taken a while to set up, this initiative would not have come about had it not been for the M. C. F. Grant and the generosity of Freemasons. This is a wonderful example of our work supporting local communities.
