The West area held a Burns themed casino night raising funds for the 2027 festival

West Area Burns Themed Casino Night

After the success of the West Area VE Day celebrations last year, the West Area team decided to run another social event, but this time to raise money for the 2027 festival.

After some consideration, a Burns themed casino night was born. Egremont Masonic Hall was the venue on this occasion with W. Bro Ian Pattinson of Kenlis Lodge 1267 providing all the Casino equipment and the PA system.  He trained the volunteers to be Croupiers for the evening, which was very much appreciated by the West Area team. Lisa Mounsey provided the meal which was based on a traditional Burns theme.

W.Bro Luke Jackson, ProvAGDC of Lewis Lodge, was the Master of Ceremonies for the evening and efficiently ran the proceedings which started with Grace followed by the Address to the Haggis by our very own West Area Lead, W. Bro Mark Edmiston.

After the meal, the toast to the Lassies was given by W. Bro Andrew Moore, Area Deputy Lead, with the response on behalf of the Lassies being given by Lindsay Edmiston.   The “Immortal Memory” was given by Mark Edmiston and we toasted Robert Burns.

Once the formalities were completed, the gaming tables were opened, which consisted of Blackjack, Roulette, spin the wheel and a horse race table. Each player was given gambling chips as part of the ticket price.

At the end of the evening the individual totals were added up and the winner was W. Bro Luke Jackson.

The evening raised a total of £500 for the 2027 Festival and a cheque was presented to W. Bro Nigel Thomason, APGM, who sincerely thanked all who had been involved in organising the evening and for those who attended and supported the event.
