On the 17th of January 2022, W Bro Jeffrey Bell was presented with his certificate from the province marking 50 years of membership as a Mason. The certificate was presented to Jeffrey at his home by W Bro Michael Cameron PAGDC, Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies and Deputy Chairman of the Solway Group of Lodges. The certificate had originally been planned to be presented at the lodge by W Bro Ian St. John D’Arcy PSGD Assistant Grand Master but with concerns from Jeffrey’s family around the recent rise in Covid cases, Jeffrey opted to receive his certificate at home.
Jeffrey was born in Workington in 1927, he attended St. John’s Junior School and then Workington Secondary School. Jeffrey married Esther Margaret in 1958, having three children Robert, Andrew and Hilary. They also have two granddaughters Jennifer and Sarah. Jeffrey was employed as Bank Manager and he also was the treasurer for The Northern Area Young Farmers for 15 years.
Jeffrey was initiated into Ellen Vale Lodge on the 17th of January 1972 and became Master in April 1985. During that year the lodge had three initiations, three second degrees and two third degrees, a rather busy year.
Jeff became the 2nd Treasurer of the Lodge, an office he held for 25 years. He was a good ritualist, especially the Third Degree Traditional History. He was also the Treasurer of the Bar and Social Club for approximately 25 -30 years. Jeff was one of the founder members of the Ellen Vale Waiters’ Group who entertained at various lodges throughout the province. The members of Eden lodge presented them with an Amplifier and Speakers to be used at their various performances. Jeff is a life member of the Caravan Club and also celebrated his 95th birthday just before receiving his certificate.
His favourite tipple is a good glass of Whisky. Congratulations Jeff on your achievement.
