A special visit was made by Cumberland & Westmorland Freemasons, and partners, to the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment Memorial. Set upon a large imposing block of Cumbrian stone, and carved with a glider, stands a striking bronze Lion of England —facing towards the North West. The memorial all those who have died while serving with The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment.
Formed on 1 July 2006 through the amalgamation of the King’s Own Royal Border Regiment, the King’s Regiment and the Queen’s Lancashire Regiment, the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment recruits from Cumbria, Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside and the Isle of Man. The carved glider reflects the Regiment’s airborne heritage, commemorating the Border Regiment’s role in the airborne invasion of Sicily on 9 July 1943. .
We hold a deep and enduring respect for our living connection with the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment , a relationship rooted in shared values of service, duty and remembrance.
